• 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kate O'Connor -- Required reading for anyone in the pharma industry : In this book, Kansal and Huth bravely go where few pharma executives are willing to - openly acknowledging that the biopharma industry as it currently exists is not one that will be able to survive the certain disruption that is coming by way of digital innovation, regulatory and environmental changes, the entry of nontraditional players and the still unmet needs of millions of patients around the world. The authors speak from experience in terms of knowing the industry from the inside but also having been drivers of innovation in their work. They don't just say it must be done; these are leaders who have pushed for change and made it happen. Based on their early work in this area, they provide a clear framework for how to set up and successfully execute a transformational agenda as a complement to the continued successful operation of the business. This book may be painful for some to accept, but should be required reading for anyone working in the industry. The leaders and companies that heed their advice are the ones who will prevail in the face of total disruption, because they will end up driving at least some portion of it. Kansal and Huth present a compelling case for why the changes need to happen now and why their "80-80 Rule" is a framework to make this a reality. They provide clear steps for organizations on how to incorporate external thinking and talent in addition to better leveraging their existing talent and capabilities. The BioPharm industry has always been willing to take risks in the search of the next big molecule and the authors encourage companies to apply that thinking to "innovation" beyond medication.
